Santa Monica Studio is seeking an Associate Technical Level Designer for the development of a new unannounced title!This individual will work side by side with our Level Design, Systems Design, Combat Design and Engineering teams, supporting innovative and ambitious content through solving scripting, workflow and implementation problems.As an Associate Technical Level Designer, you will collaborate with design, art, and engineering to creatively solve challenging technical problems. You have a strong computer science and/or scripting background working on a video game team. Help us create amazing world leading games that will set the PS5 apart from the rest!Responsibilities

Work closely with the level designers and combat designers to create interactive objects and set pieces within the larger gameSolve challenging technical problems using creative and innovative ideasWork with the Tools team to optimize workflowsAuthor, troubleshoot, and maintain complex scripted scenariosIdentify and solve technical issues for the other designers as the product goes through Alpha, Beta, and FinalProvide team-facing documentation to inform and guide the work of downstream groupsParticipate in planning a roadmap to completion for the systems for which you’re responsibleUnderstand, interpret, and execute on creative direction in alignment with project goalsPlaytest and tune gameplay using feedback to inform iteration and qualityRequirements

The ideal candidate is part designer and part programmerExperience working in a 3D level editor or other 3D modelling softwareExperience using text-based and visual scripting languagesExperience creating tools and solving technical issues for designStrong collaboration and problem-solving skillsStrong written communication skills and the ability to convey abstract conceptsAbility to think logically and with attention to detailKnowledge of competitive products and a variety of gameplay genres, as well as a personal understanding of what makes video games fun1 year in a technical design role on a video game projectPreferred Experience

Experience with Maya, especially modelling and animationExpertise working on action games or action RPGsCompletion of at least one full AAA development cycleA Computer Science or related degreeThe estimated base pay range for this role is listed below, this is an hourly rate.$34.72 — $52.12 USD
