Department Summary

The SJSU School of Music serves over 300 music majors pursuing undergraduate degrees in Music (BA, BM_Composition, BM_Jazz Studies, BM_Music Education, BM_Performance), as well as the Master of Music degree. With a faculty roster of approximately 60 artist/teachers, students in the School receive professional individual and group instruction, supporting curricular standards guided by best practices. The School is accredited by NASM and presents over 200 performances per season throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.Brief Description of Duties

Teach courses in Music as described below:Academic classes, including applied instruction in all band and orchestral instruments, voice and keyboard; classroom courses in all aspects of music history; general education courses in music; and all music ensembles (e.g., band, chamber, choir, jazz band, orchestra) at introductory and advanced levels.Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity, including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation, through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the assigned mode (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).Required Qualifications

Music candidates for history, ethnomusicology, music literature, and theory must possess a Master's Degree.Music candidates for studio instrumental, opera, voice, jazz, popular music, and courses in business/commercial music may possess a Master's Degree or a Bachelor of Music plus exceptional professional achievement.Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.Ability to evaluate adult learners.Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.Compensation

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary:L-A / - $4530 - $5405L-B / - $5405 - $6786L-C / - $6190 - $8554L-D / - $7794 - $9385Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate for full-time AY faculty; part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12).Application Procedure
