Director of Medical Libraries , you will oversee the clinical library sites across the HMH network. In this role, you will plan, organize, and direct library services that integrate with the organization's strategic plan, which will include providing strategic support in designing a centralized electronic library system for the HMH network. This position will also provide comprehensive guidance with searches and related requests for the HMH library system. In this role, you will report to the Associate Dean/VP of Medical Library Services.This position is primarily based out of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, but will include occasional travel to Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ.

includes:Working under the direction of the Associate Dean/VP of Medical Library Services, plans and directs responsive, customer-oriented library and information services across the clinical sites within HMH. Set goals and objectives for library services and develops plans to realize the goals. Determines services needed, the most effective way to provide them and the resources necessary to support them.Assist the Associate Dean/VP Medical Library Services in the development of a centralized library system and collection for the entire HMH network. Evaluate services to ensure information resources are responsive to client needs and organizational goals.Recruit, select, appoint, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate hospital librarians and support staff.Define responsibilities and write position descriptions for clinical library personnel, review and revise as necessary.Provide educational and training opportunities for hospital library staff to ensure professional development and their ability to provide quality library services.Sets policies and procedures for all hospital library functions.Direct day-to-day operations of the hospital library sites.Oversight of the physical facilities at HUMC and JSUMC, including space design and utilization, furnishings, equipment, signage and security.Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements.Assess continued relevance of resources by applying professional criteria and thorough analysis of usage statistics, user studies and customer feedback.Delegate and monitor duties and responsibilities of hospital library staff.Design and develop plans to continuously promote information resources and knowledge services across the organization.Develop in-service and outreach programs to market services and interpret library resources.Develop relationships across the organization in order to facilitate effective information and knowledge solutions and/or improve resource usage and service effectiveness.Provide expertise as a member of various committees, e.g. health literacy, usage of information resources, and copyright regulations.Work collaboratively with Academic Affairs to ensure and enhance integration of library resources into medical and continuing education.Supports the Associate Dean/VP of Medical Library Services to monitor the quality of information services provided in the clinical setting.Serve as liaison to library organizations for the purpose of cooperation, and to extend the expertise and materials available to hospital personnel; take a leadership role when possible.Develops relationships with other libraries and networks to share resources.Administer copyright compliance and contractual commitments.Plan and develop the knowledge infrastructure, tools and digital resources supporting the library's role in patient care, research, inter-professional education and outreach.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.Minimum 5 years of experience in providing library services and information services in a health care setting.Able to develop a vision for library services and exercise leadership in its pursuit.Technical literacy in use of library technology, standard desktop and Internet applications.Advanced knowledge and experience with current resources, vocabularies and research techniques in the biomedical sciences, including evidence based practice tenets and teaching methodologies.Knowledge of major library functions and services, e.g. E-resources and serial management, knowledge management and acquisition, information delivery techniques, reference and database search evaluation and analysis, etc.Budgeting and financial proficiency.Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Knowledge and experience in searching a variety of databases appropriate for health care.Knowledge of MeSH, the National Library of Medicine classification system and other library standards.Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:AHIP membership.Knowledge of medical terminology.Supervisory experience.If you feel that the above description speaks directly to your strengths and capabilities, then please apply today!
