White HallPay Grade: ProfessionalJob Description:The LSU College of Art + Design (CoAD) Director of Galleries directs the College’s three galleries. The Director of Galleries provides an informed, forward-looking vision for university-based galleries to support campus and wider communities’ realization of their values through art and design. The Director of Galleries fosters a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary gallery ecosystem that supports each of the College’s units and their faculty, staff, and students and engages the larger campus community and communities beyond campus to make LSU CoAD galleries a hub of creativity and connection. The Director of Galleries will provide strategic vision and operations plan for the gallery system, including Boyce Gallery, Barnes Ogden Art & Design Gallery, and Glassell Gallery; steward diverse and inclusive programming; and oversee galleries’ academic and community outreach. The Director of Galleries assists with gallery support through grant writing.Responsibilities:Develop a strategic plan for the COAD gallery system that addresses operations, programming, community engagement, revenue generation and expense budgeting through consultation with CoAD Dean, Directors, and diverse constituents.Manage and coordinate logistics of galleries, budgets, and programs.Develop and implement a diverse schedule of exhibitions by students, faculty, alumni, and visiting artists in conjunction with each of the College’s units in alignment with College and University’s strategic goals.Coordinate and serve as liaison for faculty, students, and visiting/guest artists, curators, and programming partners.Support faculty and student research and build cross-disciplinary connections across College and University to make galleries a hub for creativity, exchange, and wellness.Expand wider communities’ engagement with arts through meaningful programming and relationship-building on site and in communities.Promote galleries in collaboration with College and University public relations and communications.Collaborate with College Dean and Foundation staff on donations, grant applications, and pursue revenue through sales and programming.Supervise galleries’ staff, graduate assistant, work study, and hourly positions.Foster a community of rigorous academic exchange and culture of inclusion and care.Represent CoAD locally, regionally, and nationally through exhibitions, publications, and/or professional organizations.Coordinate gallery events and rentals in collaboration with university stakeholders.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:A scholar-professional with Master’s degree in Museum/Curatorial studies or related fields of Art, Art History, Visual Culture, Material Culture.Five years experience in museum, gallery, or cultural organization setting, with record of progressive administrative responsibility and supervisory capacity.Demonstrated track record of achievement in exhibitions, working with artists, museum professionals, dealers, university communities, and the public.Track record of building and sustaining collaborative and interdisciplinary relationships across diverse constituencies.Fluency and experience implementing DEAI practices.Experience in development and fundraising, including donor cultivation and grant writing/reporting.Experience bringing campus and local communities together for meaningful interaction.Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Museum/Curatorial studies or related fields of Art, Art History, Visual Culture, Material Culture and 8 years of experience.Teaching experience and/or education experience in gallery/museum setting.History of development of robust public engagement, community outreach, and educational programming.Experience managing an organizational budget and financial resources.Demonstrated history of authoring both scholarly publications and gallery interpretations for general audiences.Experience working in university environment with faculty and students.Demonstrated understanding of the academic mission of a research university and the role of arts within it.Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.Ability to collaborate, promote, and motivate faculty, staff, students, and community.Special Instructions:Please provide cover letter, resume and (3) professional references including name, title, phone number and e-mail address.A copy of your transcript(s) may be attached to your application.
