The Gregg Museum of Art & Design is the collecting art museum of NC State University. It is one of the six primary units of Arts NC State within the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. The Gregg’s holdings reflect the wide-ranging curricula of the university, with a permanent collection of more than 54,000 objects, including crafts, applied and decorative arts, industrial design, architectural drawings and works on paper, photography, ceramics, paintings, sculptures, textiles, clothing, furniture, archaeological artifacts, tribal and ethnographic objects, and works by self-taught artists. In addition to maintaining and making available this major resource for the purposes of research and teaching, the museum presents six to eight exhibitions each year, accompanied by exciting performances, activities, and educational programs, all with zero admission fees. The Gregg inspires creativity, innovation, and the expression of ideas by making its collections and activities freely accessible to the university community and to the public.Position OverviewThe Education Coordinator will work with the Curator of Education to support the educational goals of the museum. This position will be responsible for helping to identify opportunities to supplement the University’s courses through exhibitions and objects from the collection, in addition to exploring the development of K-12 initiatives. The Education Coordinator will assist with managing a weekly program series as well as scheduling and leading tours for the community, NC State classes, and K-12 groups. This position will assist in researching objects from the permanent collections for lesson plans, social media posts, and educational content that will appear on the Gregg Museum’s website and YouTube channel.ActivitiesWork with the Curator of Education to implement museum programs including management and set up as needed; as well as schedule, develop, and lead virtual and in-person tours.Develop a K-12 program initiative by creating lesson plans, customizing age-appropriate tours, and connecting with K-12 instructors in the area.Assist with NC State faculty outreach, and coordinate work with teachers to answer questions and provide other resources. Work with the Curator of Education to engage with professors, teachers, and community groups to encourage and facilitate use of the museum’s exhibitions, programs, and offerings.Work with Visitor Services staff to write, design, print, and assemble Family guides and ADA gallery guides for exhibitions and installations.Create and coordinate digital assets including photos, videos, social media content, and virtual tours of the museum’s exhibitions, programs, and collections. Film and edit videos for YouTube.
