General Assignment Editor

to write and edit news content about a variety of topics for print and digital platforms as assigned.Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are currently limiting the number of employees in our offices. This position will begin working in a remote capacity and will be expected to return to the assigned office location following a broader return to work announcement.How does a General Assignment Editor make an impact?Regularly contributes ideas and content for print publications, social media, IFB websites and other IFB communications platforms.Conducts interviews and research, writes stories and helps prepare illustrative materials and occasional photography.Collaborates with staff throughout IFB to coordinate coverage.Promotes IFB news content through social media.Reads, proofs and corrects spelling, grammar and usage errors based on Associated Press (AP) and local style.Serves as subject matter expert within coverage area, develops and maintains network of sources and ensures content does not conflict with IFB policy.Exercises professional leadership by keeping abreast of current trends, developments, technology and new opportunities within field of responsibility.Assists with page layout and design for weekly publications on occasion.Handles general news assignments as needed.QualificationsDo you have what we're looking for?Proficient in news reporting, writing and editing, including strong knowledge of AP Style.Working knowledge of a variety of computer technology and equipment needed to produce and distribute news content, including Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, digital content management systems and social media platforms.Good project management skills, including the ability to manage and attend to details on multiple projects simultaneously, organize efficiently and establish priorities.Typically requires Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of news reporting and writing experience (or the equivalent, such as 4 years of experience or Master's degree and no experience).Why work for us?We planted our roots in 1916 and are one of the largest Farm Bureau organizations in the United States.
