Fleet Sustainment , a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. For 40 years, the U.S. Navy has entrusted HII to maintain and modernize the vast majority of its fleet. From small watercraft to submarines, combatants and aircraft carriers, our systems and maintenance experts help the Navy maintain a high state of readiness.We are currently seeking a skilled Designer 2 to join our team.

In this role, the Designer 2 will be responsible for designing and developing projects in collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other designers. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience and expertise in the field and will ensure that all designs meet project requirements and deadlines.What You Will Do

Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or CATIA.Gather information, make studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposals.Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups.Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements.Prepare and present design concepts and ideas to project teams and clients.Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in design.What You Must Have

AA or other 2-year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD software.Active Secret Clearance required for this position.Familiarity with shipboard systems and equipment.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in design.Bonus Points for Having!

Openness to travel as required.Familiarity with IDEA CAD Standards.Prior experience working with NNS, NNSY, Ingalls, and PSNS Shipyards.Physical Requirements

Ability to work in a shipboard environment, lift and carry heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in extreme temperature environments. May require the ability to work while wearing a respirator.
