0Job Description:SUMMARYConsultants are responsible for providing one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines, in order to engage and empower them to become more competent academic and professional writers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProviding one-on-one or group consulting in a supportive environment to students in all disciplines.Teaching in a one-on-one setting is integral to the position, although there is no requirement for teaching beyond the duties of the Writing Center.Performing other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAININGMaster’s Degree from an accredited college or university (English degrees preferred).Demonstrated writing consultation experience in a tutorial or instructional setting.Experience working with community college students.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIESPossess working knowledge of writing concepts, practices, and procedures with the ability to apply to varied situations.Ability to explain concepts to others effectively.Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment.Possess strong organizational and time-management skills.Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively.Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail.Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships.Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity.Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population.COMPETENCIESCRITICAL COMPETENCIESService FocusCommunicationsQuality of WorkPHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS(The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
