Job Summary

: Multimedia Specialist works to share the diocesan story through the development of visually engaging videos, audio and photography services. As a member of the communications team, the individual collaborates to create campaigns, assist in creating scripts, develops storyboards, shoots, edits, and delivers quality videos, photos, reels, graphic content, and other visual media that can be shared across a variety of platforms. This position reports to the Director of Communications - Catholic Spirit and operates with a moderate latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

Ministerial Character

The Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (the diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). Each position employed in the Diocese of Austin helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Essential Job Duties

:

Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Austin in both your professional and personal life.

Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

Content Strategy and Planning:

Develop a video/photography strategy that supports the overall communication objectives of the Diocese of Austin. Collaborate with the team and cross functional diocesan teams to develop and execute holistic campaigns including print, social, mass media, and graphics that support events, and other initiatives leveraging resources and expertise to craft and amplify key campaigns.

Creates and develops content for digital platforms, including but not limited to web, social media, podcast, magazine and other channels that inform, educate and inspire.

Participates with teams internally and externally in the creation and distribution of content.

Works collaboratively with communications brand, social media, design, and digital counterparts to help conceptualize and produce engaging digital content for channels.

Content Creation:

Produce video, audio, graphics, animation, and interactive media in support of diocesan bishop and ministries that will enhance communications efforts through use of a variety of video, still and drone type camera equipment.

Uses the most appropriate tools (e.g., design, infographics, video, photograph etc.) to tell the story in a way that connects with the target audience and is appropriate for the vehicle.

Create the following content:

Video, reels, voice overs, and photos for various social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook for each of the nine active platforms.

Capture footage, still, video, audio to promote events and activities that teach His message.

Captures bishop, clergy and other stakeholder messages for packing and amplifying across appropriate platforms.

Maintains assets in organized manner to best archive diocesan history.

Manages internal asset creation including business cards, and letterhead.

Produce and edit images for archival use, including photography and videos, that capture the diocesan history through significant events.

Brand Voice and Messaging:

Ensure consistency in brand voice and messaging across all platforms.

Develop visually appealing stand-alone videos that capture and share the voice of the Bishop as well as videos that are part of an overarching campaign.

Craft new ways to share catechetical, historical and seasonal messaging.

Create short reels/videos to showcase the events in the diocese.

Professional Development

Actively engage in the Catholic Media Association, Photography Studio, among other professional entities, to build upon skills and stay current of new trends.

Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability and collaboration with to parishes, diocesan staff and other customers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Basic knowledge of theology and a strong understanding of the liturgy, Church language, and usage.

Knowledge of video and audio recording with some knowledge of editing software.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective, positive relationships with internal and externals.

Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, religious and laity.

Skill in operating position-appropriate technology, including various programs, apps, photography, video and drone type equipment, and other similar equipment and technology.

Skill in clearly and accurately communicating orally and in writing, including skill in communicating complex and technical information to a wide variety of audiences.

Ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, and utilize effective time management techniques.

Ability to create and execute project work plans to meet changing needs and requirements.

Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Trainings:

Bachelor's degree in Radio/Television/Film, media, communications or design from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.

Associate degree, as delineated above, acceptable with a minimum of 4 years' experience.

Experience:

Two (2) years of work experience in video and photography creation and production with a work portfolio.

Language Requirement:

English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).

Catholic Requirement:

Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications:

Valid Texas driver's license.

Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions:

All employees of the Diocese of Austin are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Bishop in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.

The Diocese of Austin is an at-will employer.

All buildings and vehicles owned by the Diocese of Austin are tobacco-free.

Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.

Working on weekends, evenings and some holidays may be required.

Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.

Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.

May be required to use personal or diocesan vehicles to drive to parishes or other off-site locations.

Traveling within and outside the diocese to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may include overnight lodging.
