The Research and Interlibrary Loan Assistant provides assistance to the administration, faculty, staff, and students of Lee University and the Pentecostal Theological Seminary to maximize the productive use of information resources for study, learning, research, and pleasure. This position is a 30-hour per week full-time position and includes working Saturday and Sunday every other weekend with a weekday rotating shift at the Information Services Desk on evenings. The Research and Interlibrary Loan Assistant must be willing to work other assigned shifts and special events, including evenings, nights, and holidays (as needed). The Research and Interlibrary Loan Assistant will abide by all policies and provisions as set forth in the Lee University Staff Handbook.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe specific job functions of this position may include but are not limited to the following:Borrows/lends material through OCLC’s WorldShare ILL programMaintains records of Interlibrary Loan transactionsSupervises student assistantsAnswers reference questions in person, by telephone, by email or by chatAssists patrons in identifying, focusing and stating their desired research needsAssists patrons in identifying, locating and accessing desired library materialsInstructs patrons in the use of catalogs, databases and other print and electronic resourcesIn the absence of the Daytime and/or Evening Supervisor, oversees the full range of circulation desk procedures using an automated circulation system and supervises desk staffAssists with special projects, including possible programs such as 3D printing, social media, CanvaPerforms other services and duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSExcellent customer service, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently under minimum supervision in accordance with established procedures, but function as part of a teamIntermediate to advanced knowledge of computers, data processing software, email programs, spreadsheet design, and telephonesExcellent working knowledge of research techniques/methods, including various documentation styles (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.)Thorough familiarity with library website and its contentsConsiderable ability to pay attention to detailKnowledge of paraprofessional library principles, methods, techniques and procedures (including the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding library patron records and other classified information)Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in difficult situationsWilling to present a professional image and work ethicAbility to manage and prioritize multiple tasksAbility to supervise student assistantsStrong organizational and decision-making skillsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCERequired:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institutionPreferred:Two (2) years’ experience working in a library setting or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesExperience with OCLC’s WMS and WorldShare ILLPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSEstimated amount of each day spent:Sitting 85%Walking 10%Standing

5%While performing the duties of this job, the Research and Interlibrary Loan Assistant is occasionally required to search through the book stacks and carry books, to reach with hands and arms (including books from shelf above head level), climb stairs, stoop, or kneel.
