OVERVIEW

The Brand Graphic Designer is responsible for designing visually engaging and persuasive collateral that effectively communicates our products or services’ value proposition and drives conversions or calls to action. Collaboration and teamwork are essential aspects of this position, as you will work closely with the Marketing and Advancement teams to develop compelling designs that resonate with our target audience and contribute to achieving our business objectives.

The Brand Graphic Designer plays a pivotal role in maintaining brand identity across various touchpoints. While attention to detail and adherence to brand guidelines are essential, the designer can see the bigger picture, understanding the latitude of our brand’s expression. In this role, the Brand Graphic Designer serves as a key steward of our brand, responsible for maintaining brand integrity and consistency across all design projects. This role takes ownership of day-to-day brand execution and design tasks in line with the overarching brand and creative strategy and objectives.

Designed assets may include advertising, brochures, posters, direct mail, flyers, out of home, digital graphics and web assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Brand & Design

Position requires designing in alignment with creative strategy and briefs to ensure cohesive brand expression and campaign effectiveness.

Ensure consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across all design projects, while also understanding the brand’s flexibility for creative expression.

This role maintains and enhances our brand’s visual identity across multiple platforms. While most of the work will be handled internally, projects that require specialized strategic services may be outsourced, from market research brand positioning or specialized creative expertise, or occasionally to manage workload demands effectively.

Create and update design templates each season, maintaining brand consistency while applying seasonal look across all sales materials.

Adept at crafting sophisticated, accessible creative solutions that authentically reflect our brand’s identity while resonating with diverse audience segments.

Conceptualize key art and design layouts for single ticket campaigns that effectively communicate key messages and support marketing objectives.

Ensure that all designs support the communication objectives by adhering to the message hierarchy and showcasing the product through brand expression consistently.

Provide both design oversight and hands-on creative of visual design deliverables, from style guides, design comps, typography, color, and screen layouts.

Collaboration

Work closely with internal stakeholders (clients), including marketing, content creators, and other departments, to understand project requirements and translate them into visually engaging design solutions.

Exhibit willingness to listen attentively to internal client needs and goals, prioritizing effective communication and collaboration, to ensure the delivery of design solutions that truly resonate with our clients and stakeholders.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing business needs and priorities while collaborating with internal and external partners to achieve brand objectives.

Ensure print production processes meet quality standards against design while balancing cost efficiency.

Management & Organization

Initiating projects, setting timelines, scheduling reviews, and ensuring all stakeholders are aligned throughout the process, as assigned.

Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while adhering to project timelines and deadlines. Proactively communicate with team members to ensure timely delivery of design assets.

Maintain visual brand assets including logos, color palettes, typography, and design templates, ensuring consistency and adherence to brand guidelines.

Organize/catalogue visual assets accordingly.

Stakeholder in the digital asset management for related design asset files, working collaboratively or in partnership with the content team.

COMPETENCIES

Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics, ensuring all design work meets high-quality communication and brand standards.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present and explain design concepts effectively.

Demonstrate the ability to be receptive of input from internal clients to deliver against goals of project.

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively with the ability to incorporate feedback and iterations on designs quickly to meet project deadlines.

Dynamic and adaptable designer who brings not only a strong creative point of view but also a collaborative spirit, able to seamlessly integrate feedback from team members while maintaining flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Adept at articulating ideas through active listening skills, valuing input and collaboration from team members.

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining brand integrity, balanced with a creative mindset and willingness to explore new ideas.

Awareness of current design trends.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in visual communication, graphic design, or related field with minimum of three to five years design experience, preferably in a branding or marketing environment.

Proven experience as a graphic designer or communication designer with a strong portfolio showcasing sales pieces and marketing collateral, demonstrating creativity and technical skill, and showcasing brand identity across various mediums.

Proficiency in typography, color theory, layout techniques, and visual design principles.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Dropbox, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of print production processes and specifications.

Present a portfolio showcasing a diverse range of design project.

Knowledge of motion graphics is a plus.

Interest in symphonic music is a plus.

Event duty and attendance as required.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra performs annually for more than 275,000 people throughout the State of Maryland. Since 1982, the BSO has performed at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, and since 2005, with the opening of The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD, the BSO became the nation’s first orchestra performing its full season of Classical and Pops concerts in two metropolitan areas.

In July 2022, the BSO once again made history with its announcement that Jonathon Heyward would succeed Music Director Laureate and OrchKids Founder Marin Alsop as the Orchestra’s next Music Director. Maestro Heyward began his inaugural season in September 2023.
