ResponsibilitiesThe

Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) , the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world seeks a Copy Editor for our Tysons (McLean), VA office.

ALPA represents more than 78,000 pilots at 41 airlines in the United States and Canada.

The ALPA Copy Editor proofreads and edits original products for content, quality, and consistency.

They are responsible for maintaining ALPA’s voice by reviewing and editing all ALPA products across digital and print platforms.

Documents include website copy, weekly emails, whitepapers, newsletters, business cards, and promotional items.

This position requires meticulous understanding and adherence to ALPA policies, governing documents, and style guides.

Deadlines are often very tight and attention to detail is essential.

Review may require digital or hard copy editing and working with a team of designers, writers, and subject matter experts.Interested applicants are requested to submit online portfolio link(s) showing previous work.Travel:

0 – 2%.Minimum Requirements:High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in relevant area, e.g., Communications, English, Journalism, or related discipline, from an accredited college or university preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience strongly preferred.Three (3) years of experience as a professional copy editor required, five (5) or more years strongly preferred.Editing experience in a high-volume, association, advocacy, and/or union environment strongly preferred.Excellent professional communications skills, written and oral, required, with requestors as well as department colleagues.Proven writing and copy-editing abilities, including a variety of technical and nontechnical documents.The ability to give direction to designers or writers when changes are required to jobs.Knowledge of desktop publishing techniques and software applications preferred.Experience with creative writing a plus.Strong knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite a major plus.Ability to edit and review in French a plus.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet all deadlines.Ability to interact professionally with all levels of internal and external contacts.Software: Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel; Adobe Creative Suite experience a definite plus.Physical Demands:Note: The physical demands described herein are characteristic of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential
