Hearst Connecticut Media Group’s journalists cover communities all over the state, serving readers across platforms, including our sites, app, newsletters, social media accounts and more for nine daily and 21 weekly newspapers.

We’re looking for a collaborative, organized and thoughtful Audience Intern for an 8 to 10 week paid part-time internship embedded in our newsroom.

The audience team oversees, manages and creates content for several daily news sites. Audience team members write alerts and social media posts, build special projects and curate and package stories from multiple sources.

Depending upon the intern’s area of expertise, they will embed with a team leader to learn best practices for a platform or platforms to grow their expertise and contribute to the newsroom’s goals of serving more readers with impactful and engaging journalism.

Duties and responsibilities could include:

Working collaboratively with audience team members to curate, package and elevate stories and headlines across platforms that engage and retain local readers

Crafting push and email alerts or social media posts

Reporting and producing timely stories and/or videos on trending topics

Taking on a small special project in collaboration with other journalists

Qualifications:

Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills

Some college experience, preferably in an English, communications or related field

Organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks

Ability to speak a second language like Spanish a plus
