The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Athletics Scholar-Athlete Development & Eligibility Advisor. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world's premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top 10 public universities in the nation. UC San Diego Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, sponsors 23 varsity sports, and is a member of the Big West Conference, an NCAA Division I conference.Under direction of the Executive Sr. Associate AD - Scholar-Athlete Success, the incumbent is responsible for a comprehensive NCAA academic eligibility advising of scholar-athletes and student-athlete development program. The incumbent works closely with Athletic Directors, Coaches and the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Athletics Compliance & the NCAA Certifying Officer in the Registrar's Office. Responsible for understanding and applying NCAA rules to all assigned tasks. The incumbent will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.Provide advisement and mentorship support to incoming and continuing scholar-athletes enrolled in the Triton Success Program. Collaborates with Athletics Compliance, developing and implementing compliance education plan focused on improving Coach and staff expertise and knowledge of NCAA compliance, and the consequences of noncompliance as they relate to Bylaw 14 and progress towards degree. Analysis for various NCAA & institutional reports, including but not limited to Federal Graduation Rates, NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR).Oversees and develops student academic support programs for student-athletes, including study hall, tutoring, mentoring, programs, and "missed class letters." Oversees eligibility advising for the student-athlete population. Acquires and disseminates information to UC San Diego student-athletes, and applies the techniques and skills learned at NCAA and CCAA conferences to the UC San Diego athletic program.Applies advanced academic advising concepts and experience, addresses the most difficult problems in academic advising, and develops solutions to these problems. Recognized as having advanced, specialized expertise for the department / college / school and / or has programmatic responsibility for a small, complex student affairs function that usually has a discrete budget or budgets, has impact beyond the unit, and involves establishing strategic goals. Is expected to identify systemic problems and issues and propose solutions to department / college / school management on changes to department policy and procedures. Provides advice and counsel on academic advising issues to other, experienced academic advisors.QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Advanced professional experience in a college academic advising environment. Knowledge of educational theory and principles and experience in practical application of counseling techniques. Demonstrated leadership skills in advising functions. Proven skill in evaluating academic records.Thorough knowledge of college / school policies, procedures, and requirements. Thorough knowledge and skill in interpreting and implementing college and University policies and procedures.Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, project management.Ability to multi-task. Demonstrated skill in organizing, prioritizing, and maintaining a diverse workload, establishing and meeting goals and deadlines, and independently following tasks through completion.Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to influence, both verbally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to convey technical information and provide guidelines in a clear and professional manner, using diplomacy, tact and discretion in all interactions.Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, tact, diplomacy and flexibility.Understanding of the overall mission of the UC San Diego Intercollegiate Athletic Department, commitment to directing the communication component of that mission and willingness to collaborate with other staff members to effectively handle department-wide initiatives.Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres.SPECIAL CONDITIONS
