Visit cpkcr.com to learn about the CPKC advantage, our purpose and culture.PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:This job manages a staff of approximately 100 who provides daily supervision of cost-effective repairs and maintenance resulting in safe movement of trains that are operational 24 hours a day and manages the budget and departmental operations to ensure projects are completed on target.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:Manages all employees in the Signal department as it relates to safety and training to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and accidents are avoided.Ensures subordinate supervisors regularly conduct efficiency testing of staff.Manages logistics to ensure staff has appropriate labor and material to maintain the signal system daily.Oversees day-to-day operations in the Signal Department, signal capital and billable projects.Manages Signal Department Capital Budget, Overtime Budget, Investigations and Discipline for all signal employees, Signal Department Truck Fleet, CTC Maintainer of TMDS Dispatch System, and Signal Test and Inspection compliance in accordance with RS&I/RP as required.Ensures timely repairs for signal system failures, accident investigation and reporting, related investigations and discipline across the Signal Department while working with the legal department on signal related issues.Investigates reports of false clears, activation failures, trains getting by red signals, run-through switches, etc., and provides necessary recorder logs, and records as needed.Works closely with Labor Relations team to manage labor and union issues.Participates as subject matter expert in new IT databases that include signal department related information, and other IT activities.Responds to mainline derailments with signal damage as a first responder.Works with Critical Information Desk (CID) to maintain service interruption compliance and procedures.Assists in estimating capital projects, material issues and suppliers, and the Engineering Project Management department with projects as needed.Oversees the development and implementation of emergency disaster recovery plan, e.g., hurricanes, ice storms, etc.Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements, customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations and applies balanced consequences.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Must have valid driver’s license.Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job-related major field of study.Minimum ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing complex projects or programs with outcome-focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum three (3) years of managerial experience.Must have a passport and be able to cross the border to Mexico.WHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits package.Employer Funded Retirement Plan.Employee Share Purchase Plan.Performance Incentive Program.Annual Fitness Subsidy.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:As an employer with North American presence, the possibility does exist that the location of your position may be changed based on organizational requirements.Medical Requirements:Operating safely is a core foundation of CPKC.
