Job Summary:

The responsibility of this position will be to tell the story of the Department of Communication Arts across the numerous communication platforms through which we engage our students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and partners throughout the university. To communicate to these groups and deepen their investment in our program, our communication specialist will need to possess the skills to craft effective news stories, produce compelling social media content, generate fundraising appeals, and promote department efforts. Those abilities must also be matched by a curiosity and eagerness to understand the department and articulate the unique characteristics that provide value to all these different groups. To be successful, our communication specialist must also be very detail oriented, excited to be a part of a community that values diversity and inclusion, extremely receptive to feedback from numerous collaborators, responsive to both short and long-term deadlines, and invested in the success and growth of the Communication Arts department. In addition to strong writing skills, an aptitude for visual design will be necessary to produce compelling, high-quality images and videos.The position will hold primary responsibility for the department's public facing website and social media channels as well as alumni newsletters and other outreach materials. Our communication specialist will also work closely with the department chair and other key personnel to support projects related to department strategic priorities, including but not limited to student recruitment, course promotion, events, fundraising campaigns, and community building. In addition to external communications, this role will also involve the creation of knowledgebases, databases, and webforms aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of internal communication. The communication specialist should expect to participate in discussions about advancing the department's long-term goals and will be expected to help deliver measurable progress through their communication contributions.Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.5% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives25% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objectives15% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources30% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns10% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans10% Plan, design, and update web, photo, and video content in consultation with external developers and departmental IT staff5% Other duties as assignedEducation:

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in communications or marketing preferred.Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:- Demonstrated strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills- Evidence of writing exciting, dynamic, and error-free copy- Experience creating and maintaining web content- Demonstrated ability to cultivate community on social media and in face-to-face settings- Responsiveness to feedback and eagerness to collaborate

Full Time: 100%This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.This position could involve attending events on campus that may not be held in Vilas Hall. $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)Depending on QualificationsThe typical starting salary for this position is $60,000-$65,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
