We currently have an opening for a Colorist Assistant. This position is located in Hollywood, CA.

Summary:

Responsibilities include interacting with artists, producers, and resource managers to complete projects until completion. Experience in rotoscoping, data management, knowledge of Autodesk Lustre/DaVinci Resolve/Filmlight Baselight software platform(s), experience with digital or film projectors, and a general understanding of the digital intermediate process are all preferred. Maintain a can-do, results-oriented mentality; take ownership of both individual and team-based accountability toward results. Flexible start and end times a must.

Preparations for Projects/Sessions

Ensure all elements are properly labeled.Ensure all required elements are present and notify the project producer and production coordinator if not.Communicate with the project producer and the production coordinators any issues that may arise with elements.Parse-Conform VAMs and/or CUTS for color with provided EDL from online.Color-trace project updates to all appropriate versions.Ensure all required color elements are accounted for such as drop-ins, mattes, and conform references.Ensure all project settings are set to the defined department standard.Flag and contact project producer and colorist on any shots that do not line up with the reference.Update the project producer and production coordinators on any prep issues or spec changes.

Execution of JobSet up color suites 15-30 minutes prior to session start per session requirements. Calibration of projectors required.Check color project for issues and playback performance prior to session start and client arrival.Keep in communication with the project producer and production coordinator on any outstanding footage needed to complete the project.Monitor the progress of a session, keeping the project producer and production coordinator updated on its status as needed.Communicate any machine downtime to the producer, operations, and engineering.Ensure artists add their session time to the work order.Prep and add any FX drop-in shots for the session.Ensure hero stills are updated and grabbed for all timelines.Update the project producer with any spec and or delivery changes.

Final DeliveryCommunicate with the project producer on any additional requests made by the clients in the suites.Render project per project specs and as instructed by Imaging Science.Label elements as requested per project specs.Label finished elements clearly to indicate episode, cut number/letter, date, etc.Quality check all rendered material for any missing material or corruption.Update the project producer on any cut-offs or delays in delivery.

Final BillingEnsure all work orders are legibly filled out with set-up, color, and render/laydown time.Work orders returned daily.

CommunicationsTouch base with project producer or evening production coordinator before leaving shift for handoff notes, etc.Update producers and coordinators on all relevant information for all aspects of the project; Prep and Post.Generate Night Report with the status of the current evening sessions and prep work completed for following days' sessions.

EngineeringReport all system repair needs to operations/engineering, creating support tickets. For urgent matters, immediately contact your supervisor.Keep production up-to-date on the status of any situation that directly affects the session and or deliveries.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, and skill-set:BA degree preferred.Minimum 2 years experience working in production or a fast-paced environment.Extremely organized, resourceful, quick learner with exemplary attention to detail.Strong communication skills (verbal and written) a must.Proficient with Mac, PC, Microsoft Word, and Excel.Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and results-driven.Ability to troubleshoot.Background and/or knowledge of offline editing.Linux experience with ability to navigate via command line.Autodesk Lustre, DaVinci Resolve, Filmlight Baselight experience a plus.
