Halifax County, VA is seeking candidates for a Library DirectorGeneral Description:The Halifax County – South Boston Public Library System (HCSBPLS) is seeking a Library Director to serve a county of 33,600+ residents and oversee a staff of 17 full time and part time employees. The HCSBPLS has a collection of over 96,000 items in 2 branch locations. The Halifax branch is located at 177 S Main Street in Halifax, VA and in addition to general circulation, contains a local history room. The South Boston branch is located at 509 Broad Street in South Boston, VA and has a sensory room in addition to general circulation. The mission of the HCSBPLS is to provide services, resources, and programs that will enhance the quality of life for all members of our community and to do so in an efficient manner. The Library Director is an exempt position and includes management of the library budget, development of financial reports, and implementation of strategic plans for the library system. The new Director will:Provide leadership, supervise and support all library staff, including the South Boston Branch ManagerWork with the established Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library, and Imagination Library teamsCollaborate with local agencies and organizations to promote the library system’s missionQualifications:Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program (or proof of current enrollment and plans to earn the degree within 2 years) and 5 years of supervisory/leadership experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience which demonstrates the skills and abilities needed to perform the work will be considered.Strong communication skills to serve both internal and external customers and stakeholdersAbility to develop and implement a clear library vision and plan that is responsive to the needs of the changing communityExperience with grant writing a plusMentoring and coaching skillsKnowledge of library trends and technologiesApplicant must reside in or be willing to relocate to Halifax County within 6 months of accepting the position. A background check of applicants will be performed.Compensation:The salary range is $60,000 - $64,000 with a benefits package provided by Halifax County which includes health, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, paid holidays, vacation time, and sick leave.The new Director will have an office and operate out of the Halifax Branch of the HCSBPLS. Tasks may include moderate physical effort including lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of carts and materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
