OverviewSummary:The

Instructional Designer

under the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) department will support instructional design efforts across all Wake Forest University School of Medicine campuses, focusing on the Charlotte campus. This role collaborates with UME leadership, faculty, and staff to create engaging learning experiences by applying instructional design theories and methods. Responsibilities include all phases of the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) model by analyzing data to understand curriculum needs, designing and developing learning activities and assessments, implementing instructional products with Subject Matter Experts (SME), and evaluating the curriculum for improvements.This position reports directly to the Director of Curricular Affairs in the Undergraduate Medical Education Office and collaborates with other WFUSM, Atrium Health, and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health leaders to implement a vision and strategy for the academic enterprise with defined goals and outcomes encompassing measures of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The candidate will be a team player focused on using data for the greater good of the UME program.Education/Experience:Bachelor’s in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or a related field with five (5) years of related instructional design experience. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Ability to design functional and technical training is necessary. Ideal candidates will have experience in problem-based, inquiry-based, and/or case-based curricula.Essential Functions:Work with stakeholders to identify performance, skills, knowledge, and attitudinal gaps of a targeted audience and create learning experiences to close those gaps.Design, develop, and deliver innovative, multi-modal learning solutions across each campus environment aligned with leadership needs and technical requirements.Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to understand learner satisfaction, strategy, and capabilities to achieve optimal educational outcomes.Consult with faculty/staff on instructional design needs, plan and conduct analyses, lead the design and development of curricula, and manage implementation and evaluation.Demonstrate project management experience in learning management software, instructional design, or continuing education. Experience with curriculum development and course design software (MS Office Suite, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe products) is a plus.Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.Collaborate with SMEs to design and develop learning content.Create learner-centered learning objectives and content.Apply instructional design theories, practices, and methods.Develop compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer, including microlearning, social learning, virtual and instructor-led learning, gamification, simulations, and performance support tools.Demonstrate management, project planning, strong collaboration, and cross-functional leadership abilities.Design an assessment strategy in collaboration with the Assessment & Evaluation team and Curriculum leaders to gauge the impact of the development experience.Collaborate with IT teams and consultants to ensure quality and efficiency in evaluation and assessment processes.Work independently and as part of a team of faculty, staff, and administration.Attend and contribute to discussions in applicable curriculum committees.Be available to travel off-site and work flexible hours outside the typical schedule.Other duties as assigned, including serving as proctor for examinations throughout all UME curricular years.Required Competencies:Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.Good project management and meeting facilitation skills.Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.High ethical standards and a focus on excellent customer service.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Team-oriented, customer-focused with a passion for excellence consistent with WFUSM’s culture and core values.Able to navigate a complex academic, clinical, research organization with multiple stakeholders.Preferred Competencies:Experience in the medical or health professions field preferred.Culture Commitments:We create a space where all belong.We work as one team to make great things happen.We earn trust in all we do.We innovate to better the now and create the future.We drive for excellence – always.Wake Forest University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment.
