Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized supplementary reading program that provides guided reading instruction to students in grades K–12. Clairemont Elementary School (CES) will use this program as a primary resource. This resource aims to improve students’ reading skills through reading practice and by providing frequent feedback on students’ progress to teachers and parents. The Accelerated Reader program allows students to select and read a book based on their area of interest and reading level, and afterward, they can take a quiz that checks for understanding. Upon completion of a book, students take a computerized quiz based on the book’s content and vocabulary. Quiz performance allows teachers to monitor student progress and identify those students who may need additional reading assistance. CES encourages reading, and we want all of our students to reach the goal of reading at least 20 minutes a night at home. Accelerated Reader will be used as an instructional program. Multiple incentives will be provided to the students when they have reached an Accelerated Reader goal. Searching for books with a corresponding Accelerated Reader Quiz is easy because you can use thisAccelerated Reader (AR) BookFinder link. Students, teachers, parents, and media specialists can search for an Accelerated Reader book in English or Spanish using criteria such as ATOS (Readability Formula) or a Lexile measure. Also, you can search for a book using these categories: interest level, title, author, fiction/nonfiction, subject, award-winners, state lists, Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Exemplars, and more. The Accelerated Reader BookFinder site helps you to find books that are both appropriate and interesting for our CES students. With more than 180,000 Accelerated Reader Quizzes and over 86,000 nonfiction quizzes, the students at CES will never run out of books to read. If you have a book at home and your not sure if it is an Accelerated Reader Book, then you should go to the Accelerated Reader BookFinder link to find out that answer.
You can follow your child's progress using theAccelerated Reader Home Connect link. Your child will need to type in their AR username and password that was provided to them through the school. This site is very helpful because it will provide you with real-time information in regards to your child's progress. This site can send you an email alert about your child's quiz activities.
