The Catalog Librarian is responsible for cataloging University Libraries resources in all formats to ensure discovery of and access to print, digital, and multimedia items. Additionally, the Catalog Librarian collaborates to develop, maintain, and manage library collections.Job Responsibilities

Perform original and copy cataloging of library materials using appropriate cataloging standards such as MARC21, RDA, AACR2, or other established guidelinesAssign Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), or other classification schemes to ensure consistent access points for usersEnsure accuracy and completeness of bibliographic records, including descriptive metadata and subject analysisMaintain and enhance the library’s online catalog (OPAC) by regularly updating bibliographic records, authority files, and holdings informationMonitor database integrity and resolve any data quality issues to ensure reliable access to library resourcesCollaborate with library staff to implement system updates, enhancements, and troubleshootingManage authority control processes to ensure consistency and accuracy in names, subjects, and other access pointsEstablish and maintain authority records for personal names, corporate bodies, and uniform titles to facilitate resource discovery and retrievalStay informed about changes and updates in authority data and implement revisions as necessaryOversee metadata creation and maintenance for digital collections, institutional repositories, or other digital library initiativesDevelop and implement metadata schemas and standards for digital resources to enhance discoverability and interoperabilityCollaborate with digitization and repository staff to ensure consistency and quality of metadata across digital projectsDevelop and document cataloging policies, procedures, and best practices to guide staff in cataloging workflows and decision-makingProvide training and support to library staff on cataloging standards, tools, and practicesStay abreast of changes and developments in cataloging rules, standards, and technologies and communicate updates to relevant stakeholdersProvide reference and assistance to library users in locating and accessing materials in the catalogCollaborate with subject specialists and liaisons to promote library collections and services through outreach activities, instruction sessions, and resource guidesParticipate in library committees, task forces, and projects to support user needs and advance library initiativesEngage in ongoing professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions related to cataloging and metadataContribute to the profession through research, publications, presentations, or participation in professional organizationsStay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in cataloging and metadata managementEducational/Experiential Requirements

Educational Requirements: Completion of an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) degree or its equivalentExperiential Requirements: Prior professional library experience, with a preference for academic or special library environmentsRequired Skills

Proficient in AACR2, RDA, LCSH, DDC classifications, USMARC formats, and metadata standardsFamiliarity with or willingness to learn ILS Systems such as Alma Primo (Clarivate), Folio (EBSCO), and Sierra (III/Clarivate)Strong attention to detail, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skillsAdaptability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environmentsProficiency in Office 365 and relevant Microsoft programsAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team settingCapable of managing multiple projects and priorities concurrently
