Graphic Designer (Part-time): Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art

University of California, DavisUnder the direction of the Director of Communications, and in consultation with internal clients in the Manetti Shrem Museum, the Graphic Designer will create and produce communications concepts, designs, and materials that integrate the museum’s goals and vision, translating to all of the museum’s audiences.Responsibilities include:Design and production of materials in digital and print formats for a variety of projects.Producing integrated creative concepts and designs for marketing campaigns.Working with the museum’s visual identity standards to provide coherent, flexible, and innovative graphic designs.Working with the director of communications to maintain the museum’s website and social media.Managing the museum’s production calendar and deadlines.Minimum Qualifications:Experience, knowledge, and skills to develop and produce audience-appropriate, visually engaging, versatile, and original designs and artwork.Experience and skills with essential software packages including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.Experience and skills to create original artwork, illustrations, charts, and other graphic and collateral design products that effectively communicate crucial messages.Demonstrated skill to take photographs and images appropriate to a variety of types of publications; select and edit photographs; and manage a photography-request calendar.Skill to consult and coordinate with clients on the most effective format and style to reach intended audiences, and to respond appropriately to client demands.Knowledge of and experience with printing, prepress production, and on-press procedures, experience in preparing and packaging files for production and ability to work with vendors to ensure quality and timeline are met.Extensive knowledge of design principles and aesthetic concepts; awareness of and ability to communicate current trends, industry standards, and best practices.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with museums or arts organizations.Experience providing creative guidance, analyzing communication needs and giving sound professional judgment on advertising, graphic design, branding, and communication strategies that support integrated marketing priorities and activities.Skill to apply design concepts consistently across print, digital, and web media.Skill to work with a team and balance competing demands both conceptually and in terms of priorities.Skill to understand, apply, and work effectively with established UC Davis graphic standards and museum visual identity, and to develop novel applications of trademarks and other standard elements to keep publications fresh and effective for all essential audience segments, from prospective undergraduate students and their families to alumni and donors of all ages.Communication skills to interact effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and constituency, including students, staff, faculty, donors, alumni, and highest-level administrators.Skills to be entrepreneurial and innovative, including initiating ideas and instituting best practices in communications.Technical skills to organize, maintain, and troubleshoot technical problems with high-powered Macintosh computers.Familiarity with higher education and large research universities.Communication skills to interact effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and constituency.For more information and to apply by February 18, 2016:
