Part-Time 3D Animation & Modeling Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in 3D Animation & Modeling. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years. Applicants should have an extensive knowledge of art and animation production (digital and traditional) and history.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach an intermediate 3D modeling and animation course using Autodesk Mayai. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both traditional animation techniques as well as the technical side of the production process.Assist in keeping the curriculum updated and current with industry standardsConsult with students during scheduled office and lab hoursMaintain expertise in current technologies and techniquesMinimum QualificationsPossession of any Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree AND six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below)Three years’ industry experience (must have experience working either as a freelance 3D animator/modeler artist or in a studio)Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExperience with all the aspects of the 3D production process, including modeling, texturing, lighting, animating and renderingBasic knowledge of MEL scripting and its application and uses during an animation production pipelineBasic traditional animation trainingBasic knowledge of the Adobe suite and QuicktimeExperience using Photoshop for creating original texturesKnowledge of traditional and digital 2D animation and digital videoExperience creating original storyboard art for different kinds of projectsExperience working in multiple computer platforms and system configurationsIndustry experience either in a design studio or freelancingAbility to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilitiesUnderstanding of the commercial and business side of 3D animation, modeling and story-boarding, including contracting and working as part of a larger teamPreferred QualificationsTeaching or training experience preferred.
