This position is remote, but may require travel to Sacramento, California.The Web Designer will create amazing user experiences, has an eye for clean and artful web design and has superior user interface design skills. The successful candidate will be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artifacts and transform them into intuitive and functional web page designs.The Web Designer will lead joint application design (JAD) sessions and provide expertise on Human-Centered Design principles and approaches. The candidate will elicit and confirm requirements, design wireframes, create page mockups and prototypes and validate designs with clients and end users. Excellent communication skills and working as part of an integrated team are critical.Tasks and Responsibilities:Elicit requirements using interviews, requirements workshops, joint application design (JAD) sessions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysisWrite functional requirement documents and specificationsCreate information architectures, wireframes, page mockups and prototypesCreate cascading style sheets (CSS) that are consistent across all browsers and platformsMaintain and enforce design standards and brandingPromote and enforce usability standards and best practicesRefactor and modernize legacy web applicationsProactively communicate and collaborate with clients to analyze information needs and functional requirementsCollaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needsMandatory Qualifications:A BS degree in information systems, software engineering or related field or combination of education and experience is necessaryFive or more years of demonstrated success as a web designerTwo or more years of experience with responsive and adaptive designExperience with Human-Centered Design ProcessProficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQueryExperience with screen mockup tools and prototype evaluation with end users and clientsSelf-starter with leadership skills in order to take charge of or facilitate requirement-gathering sessionsExcellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter expertsMulti-tasking skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities and manage project scope changesAdvanced skills in Microsoft Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Project and ExcelDesired Qualifications:Experience with large government technology projectsTwo or more years of demonstrated success as a web designer on Java, JSF 2.1/2.2 with PrimeFacesTwo or more years of demonstrated success as a web designer on .NET framework including C#Two or more years of demonstrated success as a web designer on mobile applications
