Part-Time Interior Design AutoCAD Instructor (Pool)

The Colleges seek a part-time faculty member in Interior Design. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges’ commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.Duties and Responsibilities:Teach classes as assigned; possibly day, evening, and weekends, from the regular Interior Design Department curriculumConsult with students during regularly scheduled office hoursMaintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologiesPerform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needsTeach AutoCAD courses in the Interior Design programMinimum Qualifications:Possession of any Bachelor’s degree

AND

two years of professional experience OR an Associate degree

AND

six years of professional experience OR the equivalent (see below)All coursework must be from an accredited college or universityDemonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staffAbility to work as needed during the day, evenings, and weekendsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Recent, successful experience in teaching college level courses in interior designSuccessful work experience in using AutoCAD 8 for the interior design fieldKnowledge of and work experience in the interiors industry (use of the latest version of AutoCAD in particular) and enthusiasm in sharing professional knowledge and experiencesKnowledge of successful teaching techniques and teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferredRecent successful experience in the development and update of interior design curriculumUnderstanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college and awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community CollegesAbility to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skillsAbility to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiencesAbility to organize and teach both theoretical and practical applications of the subject-matter in ways appropriate to students abilitiesCommitment to the

goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculumExcellent communication skills and an understanding (both theory and practical) of the career options in the emerging field of interior designAbility to work with an interior design advisory board and business/industry, and a commitment to advise and place students in the appropriate work experience sitesEvidence of organizational skillsDemonstrated currency in the field of interior designExperience using a computer to prepare correspondence, memoranda, and other written materialsPreferred Qualifications:Certification by the State of California in Interior DesignProfessional membership in one of the Interior Design organizations; i.e.,
