The Graphic Designer executes graphic design and visual communication requirements for projects in accordance with visual brand standards and guidance established by the Brand Manager/Senior Graphic Designer.About the Position

The City of Olympia is looking for a Graphic Designer to join a small, talented and highly functioning Strategic Communications team in a fast-paced work environment serving all City Departments. Creation of on-brand graphics for digital, print and collateral materials, including social media, email, blog, website, brochures, signs, annual reports, PowerPoints and uniforms for City departments, programs initiatives and campaigns.An ability to facilitate and interpret project discovery processes, provide creative input, and translate staff needs into visually engaging designs that follow city branding.The creation or incorporation of illustrations, pictures and communications to reflect the desired information, theme and tone.The execution of graphic design and document development within established schedule, budget, quality and accessibility expectations.Coordination with Brand Manager, Strategic Communications team members, vendors and City staff clients to understand each project's graphic design/visual communication requirements and expectations.The management and organization of design files and assets for efficient workflow.Typical Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat with the ability to use these programs as efficiently as possible to create technically and aesthetically well-structured design pieces.Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skillsAbility to work well under deadlines and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently while maintaining flexibility with changing demands.Must be comfortable with taking initiative and able to work under minimal supervision.Ability to work collaboratively on projects, contribute creative ideas, incorporate feedback, make revisions and solve problems to meet project expectations.Skills in photography and post production and image processing.Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint).Experience using file-sharing platforms such as Google Drive, Box or Dropbox.Knowledge of design trends and industry best practices, including ADA accessibility.Videography and motion graphic experience a plus.Experience/Education:1. Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related field.2. 3-5 years of experience in graphic design, document development, and visual communications strategies.Union:
