DESCRIPTION

The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Information Technology Department as a

Public Safety Emergency Communications Support Specialist.

The Public Safety Emergency Communication Support Specialist maintains, installs, and repairs the City's public safety communication systems which include, but are not limited to, Simulcast VHF radio, P25 capable radio systems, data and voice systems using wired and wireless transmission methods, and all ancillary systems and components which facilitate communication in support of public safety operations.

Knowledge

Knowledge of principles and techniques applied to IT devices, applications, and systems in support of radio, telephone, and data communication.Knowledge of modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.

Skills & Abilities

Ability to troubleshoot, isolate, and repair problems occurring within the public safety communication system such as microwave radio systems, the tone alert system, and emergency dispatch system, including all components and peripheral devices used in the systems.Ability to install and maintain emergency equipment in Police and Fire vehicles.Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation.Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations

Education & Experience:

Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy.Possession of, or successful completion within 12 months of employment, a CompTIA Network+ certification.

AND

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, computer information systems, information management, or a related field.Four (4) years of experience working in communications systems installation, configuration and troubleshooting, or a related field.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

Candidates who pass the virtual HireVue interview will be invited to the in-person oral interviews tentatively scheduled for August 28, 2024.

The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.

Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term.

The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $ 369.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 194.5 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 860 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
