The editor will direct an energetic, productive and talented staff across a wide swath of the Cape while collaborating with colleagues across New England and the nationwide USA Today network.The ideal applicant is someone who thrives yet maintains composure in a fast-paced digital and print news environment; who is creative and has a positive attitude; who is an enthusiastic champion of smart, thoughtful and impactful coverage and analysis; and who helps ensure the newsroom environment is one in which staffers can deliver their best possible performances every day.The Executive Editor, focused on quality journalism, is responsible for the overall digital and print content of The Cape Cod Times.

While we work aggressively to leadcoverage in our communities and deliver independent journalism essential to the communities we serve, we foster a work environment that is diverse, highlycreative,collaborative and collegial.As well, the EE is or will become a force in the community, representing The Cape Cod Times on boards and at events and helping to advance and sustain the excellent standing The Times enjoys in the communities we serve.Responsibilities include:Upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and credibility while strongly supporting the First Amendment.Providing exemplary leadership in helping to develop and execute strategic digital and other plans.Leading change management efforts that include strong communication of strategic initiatives, purpose, vision and culture.Growing digital audience and engagement across multiple platforms.Being

responsive to the needs of the staff and community; responsive to the needs of the product; and responsive in the speediest sense of the word.Attracting, retaining and nurturing top talent.Managing, motivating and inspiring staff toward excellence.Playing an active role in implementing new corporate initiatives and ensuring those initiatives are fully optimized and successful.Coordinating with other regional editors and network colleagues on content sharing opportunities.Ensuring your staff understands the company’s mission and priorities and their role in achieving it.Qualifications:Strong work ethic and a positive, generous, and encouraging management style.Ability and willingness to help set, implement and manage performance standards.Bachelor’s or master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in journalism or related field.Willingness to live on or near Cape Cod.An abiding sense of urgency and immediacy.Proven ability to act fearlessly while making smart decisions.Proven record of strong reporting, writing, and/or editing, with at least five years’ experience in a digital or print daily newsroom.Knowledge of local, regional and state news along with experience in investigative journalism, public service journalism and data journalism.We are eager to learn more about you and how you fit this role.
