Cardinal News is looking for its next Digital Audience and Content Manager who will support our news team’s storytelling across all social media channels, and will work with our development team to market our brand and increase audiences/revenue for all of our products.We’re looking for someone who can:Create and grow brand awareness for this important and unique digital news platform covering Southwest and Southside, Virginia;Help drive subscribers to Cardinal News;Significantly increase Cardinal’s X, Instagram, Facebook, etc. followersEncourage financial contributions;Position Cardinal News as the region’s leading provider of in-depth, investigative news;Reinforce Cardinal News as a trusted and objective source for bona fide, independent news in the midst of today’s “fake news” environment.Cardinal News is an organization with a bias toward action, and uses data to measure its efforts and guide decision-making. It was named Startup of the Year in 2023 by the Institute for Nonprofit News. By its second year, Cardinal was among the top 10 percent of nonprofit local news organizations in revenue and audience growth. It will be among the top 5 percent by 2028.We are dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace and encourage members of communities that are traditionally underrepresented in media to apply. Key areas of responsibility and preferred qualifications follow.This individual will work closely with the Cardinal team and report to the executive director. She/he/they will support updates to Cardinal’s external website as well as developing and executing its social media strategy, including developing and posting content to its channels. Importantly, this individual will be fluent in using data to measure agreed upon metrics to “test and learn” which strategies and content delivers the best returns. This role will oversee community management for Cardinal News.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and execute, in conjunction with the Cardinal team, an editorial calendar that best supports Cardinal’s strategic goalsDraft, edit, and plan content for Cardinal’s external digital channelsPlan and support photo/video shoots, including distributing final contentSupport team with Community ManagementServe as a key part of Cardinal’s team and provide whatever support is needed to advance goalsOptimize social content by audience, platform, and editorial cycle.Increase engagement with existing audiences and identify and develop and grow new audiences across Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and other emerging social media platforms.Develop and implement Cardinal News’s social media strategy in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.QUALIFICATIONS

Completely fluent in all existing and emerging social media platforms1-3 years of social media experience, preferably in journalismMotivated and excited to be part of an important emerging media start-upScrappy, resilient and loves learningAbility to move seamlessly between strategic thinking and executing with excellenceCreative and solutions-oriented, with strong project management skillsA team player who leads with optimismHighly organized and detail-orientedSuperior writing, editing, and presentation skillsAbility to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentAbility to balance multiple projects and meet deadlinesAbility to learn new technologies and tools quicklyStrong knowledge of communication and marketingExperience with social media reporting and analysisExperience in creating and deploying video and digital – proficient in digital storytellingExperience managing social media accounts for nonprofits or startups and creating visual graphics is a plus.We realize this list is long and not everyone will have the expertise in all aspects.
