St. Rose Church in Girard, Ohio is hiring a Director of Music, who will serve as the organist and choir director for the parish. The parish has approximately 1,100 registered families and its school has approximately 280 students. The Director of Music is a full-time, salaried, benefits eligible position that reports directly to and is under the supervision of the pastor. The position is currently open and resumes are being received by the pastor, Reverend John Chrysostom Kozlowski, O.P., either by email ( jkozlowski@youngstowndiocese.org ) or by mail (48 E. Main Street, Girard, OH, 44420).

Responsibilities

· Plan and coordinate all music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other parish liturgical events including, but not limited to, weekly school Masses, First Communion, Confirmation, eighth grade commencement, May crowning, forty hours, etc.

· Provide organ accompaniment and musical direction of the congregation, choir, and cantors, for weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other parish liturgical events including, but not limited to, weekly school Masses, First Communion, Confirmation, eighth grade commencement, May crowning, forty hours, etc.

· Prepare and distribute monthly cantor schedules for weekend and Holy Day Masses.

· Coordinate music with each couple preparing for marriage. Can arrange for special requests for musicians.

· Train, schedule, and rehearse with cantors.

· Conduct rehearsals with the parish and school choirs.

· Implement a program for a children’s choir to sing monthly.

· Hire substitutes for vacations and, in consultation with the pastor, additional music ministers when necessary/appropriate.

· Work within the parish’s assigned music budget. Anything out of the norm needs the pastor’s approval.

· Oversee maintenance of the organ, keyboard, and sound system in the church.

· Oversee and organize the musical equipment, etc. in the choir loft.

· Attend weekly staff meetings.

· Receives 4 paid weekends off for vacation, illness, or personal reasons.

Qualifications

· Degree in music required (organ performance or sacred music).

· High proficiency in both organ and piano

· Experience directing choral music from all genres in church, school or comparable setting.

· Understanding of Catholic liturgical principles and ability to communicate and promote values that develop St. Rose’s worship tradition and practice.

· Ability to manage physical and mental demands of job: time competency, responsive and receptive interpersonal communication skills, ability to maintain confidentiality in pastorally sensitive situations.

· Strong managerial and budgeting skillsneeded.

Compensation

· Salary begins at $43,000 and is negotiable dependent on experience, education, and benefits needs.

· Additional compensation consists of $150 for each funeral and $300 for each wedding.
