General Summary

The VFX Visual Development Artist is responsible for creating high-quality, 3D/CG, and 2D key art and visual development pieces that define and/or refine the visual style and storytelling of our project. This position works closely with the VFX Art Director and other lead creative team members to produce compelling visuals that guide the production of our film.Job FunctionsProduce highly detailed, photorealistic images that match practical elements and sets lit, dressed, and photographed on the stages.Collaborate with the VFX Art Director to conceptualize and/or iterate on key visual beats and themes throughout the film.Starting from storyboards, 2D concept art, or rough pre-vis models, develop and create visually stunning key art that aligns with the show’s visual style and narrative.Render high-quality, 3D key images to provide to various VFX departments (Enviro, Lighting, FX, Comp) with realistic and applicable production-ready targets.Ensure all 3D assets are optimized for show style and visual quality.Use 2D software to refine production images and/or elements into practical, production-ready targets.Work closely with the production team to ensure deliverables meet fast-paced delivery schedules.Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and reviews to provide creative input and feedback.Communicate effectively with supervisor and other department leads to ensure alignment on visual goals and project timelines.Qualifications3+ years’ experience as a 3D/CG Visual Development Artist, preferably in the VFX or film industry.Strong portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality 2D, 3D, and hybrid visual development and key art pieces.Proficiency in 3D modeling, sculpting, and rendering software (e.g., Maya, Blender, Houdini, Terragen, World Creator, Gaea, ZBrush, and Adobe Creative Suite.)Excellent understanding of color theory, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling.Strong artistic skills with a keen eye for detail and realism.Experience working with shoot data; including photographic and reference data, HDRIs, and photogrammetry.Ability to work collaboratively in an extremely fast-paced, creative environment.Strong communication and time-management skills.Experience in traditional art forms such as drawing, sculpting, or painting, preferred.LocationOn-site in Hillsboro, ORSalarySalary is commensurate with skills and experience.DisclaimerThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
