In addition to project leadership, this individual will play an important part in business development for the Social Marketing team.As a

Senior Communications Manager, Health,

you will:Lead a large, high-profile health communications and media relations project for a federal agency. This will include:Performing a range of project management tasks, including budgeting and forecasting, working with internal and government contracts staff, managing project timelines, meetings, deliverables, and work plans.Leading the ICF project team, including serving as a direct supervisor to three staff who are fully-dedicated to this contract, and working with support teams across ICF collaboratively (e.g., earned media, editing, creative).Working collaboratively with client team members, as well as outside consultants/vendors supporting the work.Developing and executing multichannel communication plans to promote NIH-funded science.Directing, planning, and creating effective communications approaches across multiple communications touchpoints including media relations, digital media, social media, and special events.Working collaboratively with NIH employees to propose strategic communications approaches, counsel leadership on strategies and tactics, and develop messaging.Using evidence-based research to develop public-facing communication.Providing audience-centric support for partnership programs, earned media activities, social media engagement and paid media efforts.Identifying, leading, and providing strategic support for new business efforts, including proposal and capture efforts.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, or equivalent experience.8+ years of directly applicable experience, preferably in a communications or PR agency setting and including demonstrated experience working with federal health agencies.2+ years with demonstrated experience managing federal agency contracts.US Citizenship (required by Federal government for position).Preferred QualificationsPrior experience with the NIH is a plus.Master's degree in Communications, Public Health, or related field is a plus.Professional SkillsProject leadership and management experience with federal health communications projects, including experience developing and managing budgets.Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills, and ability to interface effectively with all levels of the company and client.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and team members.Ability to recognize potential communications challenges and develop solutions based on best practices and research.Demonstrated experience in new business development, including proposal writing, for federal health agencies.Experience in developing/conducting project planning activities to include collecting requirements and defining scope, developing project plans and timelines, and determining resource requirements.Excellent interpersonal, written, and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize, manage and communicate multiple tasks at a given time.Strong project management skills, including an ability to triage multiple priorities and pivot as needs change, as well as a meticulous and detail-oriented approach to processes, timelines and communicating with clients and colleagues.Ability to think creatively (independently or in a group setting) and provide unique solutions and rationale for solutions to clients' communications challenges/problems.Ability to quickly understand problems, synthesize large amounts of information, and provide succinct recommendations that tie back to overall account communication strategies and tactics.Ability to "connect the dots" across other tasks within the contract and see "big picture" opportunities for contract enhancements.Strong writing skills, with experience writing for a variety of platforms to include print and digital fact sheets, short-form videos, web pages and social media accounts.Demonstrated ability to self-start, collaborate, coordinate and communicate effectively with all levels of client and client partners, including leadership.Location:The successful candidate is ideally located within a commutable distance of the Washington, D.C. metro areas with the ability to work in a hybrid manner (part remote/part office) is preferred. However, we are open to considering fully remote candidates within the U.S. Some travel may be required.
