Assessor-Recorder Technician II

The Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Chief Elections Officer for the County of San Mateo seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assessor-Recorder Technician II.Assessor-Recorder Technicians perform a variety of specialized and general office support duties in the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder's Office.Key Responsibilities:

Receiving, filing, processing, and scanning a variety of legal and other documents (proper record keeping is essential).Providing factual and procedural information in person, by mail, or over the phone to a wide range of individuals such as the public, attorneys, and government agencies.Providing coverage at the department’s front desk on a rotational basis which includes interacting with the public via telephone in a high call volume environment.Performing data entry duties including entering data fields, correcting minor errors, and researching and retrieving data and statistics.Typing a variety of items such as letters and forms.Proofreading and checking typed materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with policies and procedures.Collecting and processing incoming and outgoing mail.Performing related duties as assigned.Ideal Candidate:

Excellent record-keeping skills.Extensive computer and internet usage skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Excellent customer service skills.A high school diploma and some college experience.A good driving record and a willingness to use a County vehicle to pick up and deliver files, building plans, and permits from various locations throughout the Peninsula.One year of experience providing office support in an Assessor, County Clerk or Recorder’s Office or in a similar environment.Knowledge of:

Standard office practices and procedures.Business data processing principles and practices and the uses of computer equipment.Correct English usage including grammar, spelling and punctuation.Basic arithmetic.Record keeping principles and practices.Applicable policies, procedures, practices, codes, laws and regulations.For some positions, operation, adjustment and minor maintenance of microfilming and microimaging equipment.Skills/Abilities:

Perform detailed office work.Organize and maintain files and records.Prioritize work and perform multiple activities.Explain and apply policies, procedures, forms and concepts.Type letters, forms and other documents.Make arithmetic computations.Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Establish and maintain effective working relations with others.Operate standard office equipment.Use various office automation tools such as word processing and spreadsheet applications.For some positions, operate, adjust and perform minor maintenance to microfilming and microimaging equipment.For some positions, type at a rate of 40 words per minute.Education and Experience:

One year of experience providing office support in an Assessor, County Clerk or Recorder’s Office.Open & Promotional:

Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, extra-help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.Examination Process:

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: Pass/Fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.Application Information:
