Description

Reporting directly to the Director - Real Estate, the Design Manager will act as the facilitator for all design related activities from inception to fully designed spaces including but not limited to: programming, space planning, millwork, finishes, inventory of medical equipment, equipment specification, furniture specification and signage. The successful candidate will act as liaison between in-house team, architectural team, medgas, IT and signage companies. In this role, the individual is responsible for managing design services while nurturing relationships during the design build/renovation construction projects including gaining stakeholder input, feedback and when appropriate approval(s).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Programming

Confirm the list of specialties which will be functioning in the buildingAssign square footage requirements for each specialty and add mechanical, electrical and IT space requirements, as well as circulation spaceSpace Planning

Develop an efficient floor plan within the confines of the new or existing facility using the program of spaces as a guide.Work with architect to ensure all codes are being met and MEP spaces areProvide final plans to architect for construction documentationMillwork

Draw and review elevations with teamProvide final elevation drawings to architect for construction documentation.Finishes

Using MedVet’s finish standards, specify finishes for the new facility.Provide a graphic plan indicating finish location, such as flooring locations, wall protection and corner guard locations.Provide documentation to architect for construction drawings.On-Site Visit

Inventory all existing equipment and furnitureField verify and evaluate building conditionsEquipment and furniture requirements for each room typeElectrical needs for equipmentPlacement of equipmentProvide documentation of all findingsEquipment Specification

Work with clinicians to establish equipment needsConsult with equipment providers to identify exact equipment specificationsDevelop a document which includes:Spreadsheet with typical equipment specification informationEquipment to be tagged and coordinated with the architectural and engineering drawingsCoordinate specifications such as MEP information with the design teamAssist with the procurement process of the equipment, if neededAssist in the coordination of the equipment installation schedule, if neededFurniture Specifications

Work with team in the selection of furnishingsPrepare furniture specifications for pricingReview vendor pricing and specifications.Furniture to be tagged and coordinated with the architectural drawings.Assist in the coordination of the furniture installation schedule.Final punch with furniture vendor and follow up as needed.Signage

Develop a signage schedule for the additional spaces as listed above. Send to signage provider for pricing.Assist in the coordination of the signage installation as neededFinal punch with signage vendor and follow up as neededKnowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Our ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years’ experience in space planning and furniture, fixture and equipment layouts. Experience in the healthcare and/or veterinary field is required.
