Job DescriptionInsight Editions is seeking an experienced managing editor who will be responsible for project oversight, schedule management, data integrity, and internal communication across departments within their respective imprints. This is a fun, high-energy, high-demand environment requiring expert problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience working on highly designed, full-color lifestyle books and products, and have a passion for the many pop-culture fandoms we have the pleasure of working on each day.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in English or related field3-4 years in managing editorial or production editorial at a Trade publishing houseExperience project managing highly designed, full-color lifestyle book and productsExperience managing diverse formats, including stationery, book-plus, pop ups, and oracle decks, a plusExcellent project management and communication skillsStrong knowledge of print publishing process, formats, and book manufacturingAbility to prioritize across multiple projects and meet tight deadlinesHighly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Key duties and responsibilities:Manage a list of 50-60 active titles at a timeMeet weekly with editors to discuss their titles, troubleshoot problems, and proactively address concernsLead divisional WIP meetings, resolving issues effectively and keeping the editorial tracker up to dateManage schedule creation and maintenance for the life of each projectSchedule + facilitate internal kickoff meetings to review P&L/budget, timeline, assets, and sales materials, and to proactively identify concernsMaintain accurate metadata in FileMaker; facilitate company-wide change memosStyle manuscripts and route transmittals to the design department for layoutManage freelancers for copyedit, proofread, indexing, and other tasks as neededCollate edits for design and check implementationRun final checks on files before prepress and at ozalidsProcesses and approves freelancer invoices
