The Director of Medical Writing is a key member of the R&D team at Madrigal Pharmaceuticals. This role involves leading the development and execution of publication plans, within Madrigal’s focus on investigational pipeline and approved products. The position is highly visible within the medical organization and requires strong leadership of cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.

The Director will collaborate closely with the cross-functional data generation team (including Biometrics and Clinical Development) and engage with healthcare professionals, experts, and authors. The role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with all publication-related policies and procedures. The title may be adjusted based on the evaluation of credentials and experience.

Position Responsibilities:Serve as a subject matter expert and internal liaison for the assigned therapeutic area(s) within Madrigal Pharmaceuticals.Lead and facilitate comprehensive cross-functional global publication planning, including the creation and execution of annual publication plans and managing presence at scientific congresses. This includes understanding how these activities align with overall business strategy and identifying and prioritizing regional and local publication needs.Partner with Scientific Communications to incorporate published data into medical materials (e.g., field medical, medical affairs training).Ensure the publication development process and all materials produced comply with Madrigal’s policies and guidelines, including adherence to ICMJE, PhRMA, and GPP standards.Implement best practices and efficient processes to optimize publication efforts across R&D.Qualifications and Skills Required:Master’s degree in a scientific discipline; an advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) is preferred.A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, primarily within a publications function, with a proven track record of success in a complex and dynamic environment.Detailed working knowledge and understanding of publication strategy and planning.Expert knowledge of relevant guidelines, including but not limited to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) guidelines, CME Open Payments reporting, and Good Publication Practice (GPP).Previous experience writing and editing peer-reviewed clinical publications is highly desirable.At least 5 years of experience in successfully designing and implementing Scientific Publications Strategies, including oversight of formal needs assessments.Solid understanding of publication management databases.Demonstrated expertise in understanding and applying scientific/clinical data for external dissemination to healthcare professionals, the medical community, and key stakeholders.Experience in orphan or rare disease areas, prior launch experience, and/or experience in metabolic disorders or liver diseases is preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific and clinical data to both internal and external stakeholders.Proven ability to work effectively within collaborative and cross-functional teams.Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) credential is highly preferred.Must demonstrate the ability to embody Madrigal’s core values and competencies and interact successfully in a dynamic and culturally diverse workplace.Compensation:Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands.
