Position Description

The mission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel ofJesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the Archdiocese is seeking aDirector of Music Ministry for Saint John Neumann Parish. The ideal candidate will have aconsiderable knowledge and reverence of the Roman Catholic faith and its liturgy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Report to the Pastor and work collaboratively with other parish staff to manifest the parish’s

mission that calls to enable its parishioners to live the life of Jesus Christ and to share their God-given talents for the benefit of each other and of society.

Planning, preparation, and execution of music for all liturgical celebrations including weddings

and funerals. Play organ/piano for most English Sunday Masses as well as weddings andfunerals.

Rehearse, direct, and accompany Parish Choir.

Coordinate with Assisting Organist, Contemporary Choir Director, and Spanish Choir Director.

Schedule all musicians, choirs and cantors.

Ensure liturgical ministers are properly trained and scheduled.

Maintain inventory of liturgical supplies.

Prepare worship aids.

Chairs, schedules and records notes for Liturgy Committee meetings and administers Liturgy

and Music budgets.Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of Catholic music and liturgy.

Catholic in good standing.

Leadership, communication, planning and organizing skills and responsiveness to facilitating

the worship life of the parish.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Music or equivalent education or experience.

Three to five years in a parish setting preferred.

Excellent organ, keyboard, and conducting skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Ability to establish and maintain budgets.

HoursThis is a full-time position of 32-40 hours per week with expected weekend and evening hours.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28,284.00 - $31,612.00 per year
