Position Title:
Library Director, Glen Rock Public LibraryThe Glen Rock Public Library, located in Glen Rock, NJ, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic leader with a strong commitment to public library service to fill the position of Library Director in a warm and friendly customer-service-oriented public library.In a town where 72% of its residents have library cards, the Glen Rock Public Library is a vibrant, busy place with a circulation in the top 16 of the 77 libraries within BCCLS. The library has a full year-round program schedule for all ages. We have a dedicated staff, including three full-time MLS professionals and a full-time Business Manager. The Glen Rock Public Library is a welcoming and multi-functional place where people gather to read, access our collections, work in small groups, use our computers, and attend our programs. The library is situated within walking distance for many residents and within blocks of a small downtown with restaurants and businesses and two train stations. The library is a member of BCCLS, a consortium of 78 libraries in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic County. The library staff is unionized. The Director reports to a nine-member Board of Trustees. Our library is truly a vibrant community hub committed to fostering lifelong learning and connection. We are currently drafting our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, and we’re in the midst of several building projects, including an elevator installation and a new roof replacement, designed to enhance our facilities and better serve our patrons. Looking ahead, we have exciting plans to renovate our downstairs space.The position requires an MLS/MLIS/MI from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association and a New Jersey Professional Library Certificate. Additional qualifications include: 7 years of professional library experience in a public library of which at least 3 years have been in a management or supervisory position. Ideal candidates will have a thorough knowledge of public library service; proven experience in successful financial management and budgeting; experience with collection development and programming; social media and publicity skills; an understanding of technology and its application in public libraries; strong managerial skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience with a unionized staff preferred; and a passion for community engagement. The position offers health coverage, retirement plan, and generous holiday, vacation, and sick time. Salary commensurate with experience.
