Polysomnographic Technologist

To perform physician ordered diagnostic testing related to sleep. Arrive and register patients as needed. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Registered Technologists in the sleep medicine field

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 2 years

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Polysomnographic Technologists and Scoring Technologists.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) credential required if Technologist will be scoring sleep studies. Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credentials required if Technologist will not be scoring sleep studies.

Performs Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness test, Parasomnia studies, PAP, Oxygen titration and collect appropriate data and compile for reading physician. Implements appropriate intervention necessary for the safety of the patients and therapeutic interventions such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressures and oxygen administration.

Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper function. Notify Clinical Eng if service is required.

Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards. Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments as necessary.

Explains pre-testing, testing, post-testing procedures to patients in a form and manner necessary to demonstrate education.

Arrives, registers, and discharges patients and performs all required documentation.

Follows "light out'& "light on" procedures to establish and document base line values. Documents routine observations that meet standards and guidelines.

Scoring sleep studies, if within scope of practice and with necessary certifications (RST, RPSGT, or SDS).
