Description

Taft Junior College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. Classes were first held on the high school campus. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954, and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar Court adjacent to the high school. The West Kern Community College District was later formed, and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. With strong leadership, Taft College offers a robust academic program for its students, and is one of the finest small colleges around!

Work Study Responsibilities:

Assists library staff with various projects and daily tasks• Make copies and scan documents• Assist students, faculty, staff and public patrons at the Circulation desk• Help patrons with technology (printing, using flash drives, etc.)• Clerical duties, including Microsoft Word and Excel• Fill paper in copiers/printers• Complete opening and closing duties• Read shelves to make sure materials are in the correct place• Assist with Inventory• Look up books and articles• Maintain an orderly library including straightening and shelving books, periodicals, and furniture.• Check supplies at Circulation desk• Wipe down headphones, keyboards, laptops, mice• Use ALMA (circulation software) for Circulation transactions including checking out and/ or checking in library materials• Answer library phone and take messages as needed• Familiarity with library resources to assist library users (online catalog, subscription databases, Taft College Library Website)• Enforce the library's code of conduct• Conduct hourly headcount• Tally service transactions• Light cleaning and sanitizing of library furniture and equipment• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units, in good standing, with Taft College.Student must remain enrolled and in good standing during employment.Minimum of a 2.5 GPA.Basic complete skills and the ability to learn alphanumeric call numbers.Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision.
