Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

: Provides music therapy and related recreation department services to patients. Documents provision of services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

:

Programs and facilitates music therapy services for patients 3 to 99 years of age.Documents provision of services to include assessment of patients and documentation of progress.Assists in PI development.Assisting in maintaining music supplies and equipment to include documentation of purchases.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Strong verbal, written, and communication skills. Creative programming and ability to modify music activities to suit children, adolescents, and adults in a psychiatric setting.

EDUCATION: High school and Bachelors degree from an accredited university.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Board certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. (MT-BC)

EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 1 year of experience in programming and facilitation of music therapy services for children, adolescents, and adults. Prefer experience in a psychiatric setting.

Prefer at least some exposure to other specialized areas, i.e. horticulture, recreation/leisure, R.O.P.E.S., outdoor activities, sports, art or dance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Walking and standing for long periods of time.

* Required lifting items 25 to 50 pounds.

* Requires frequent pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, twisting, and bending.

* Repetitive use of hands.

* Requires hearing and vision to be correctable to fall within normal range.

EXPERIENCE

: At least 6 months' work in individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, case management and discharge planning preferably in an inpatient psychiatric facility; familiarity with ethical and legal duties regarding reporting of abuse.
