Job DescriptionProvide creative arts therapy, psychotherapy and counseling. Provide an environment that fosters and enhances creativity, socialization, and promotes physical and mental health.The Creative Arts Therapist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team providing support to our short term patients and long term residents, participates in the development and implementation of a clinically sound, culturally responsive programs for adults who have varying degrees of cognition and medical and/or psychological challenges. The Creative Arts Therapist will provide therapeutic groups and individual sessions engaging individuals with a person-centered approach to promote recovery and adjustment to life challenges/changes.

Job Responsibility

Develops and conducts individual and group therapy sessions to include long-term and short-term goals based on observation and referrals.

Designs and implements a variety of goal-oriented group sessions which utilize art and other creative modalities (e.g. music, mindfulness practices, gardening, etc) as effective therapeutic tools.

Plans and implements a structured experience to enhance patient self-awareness and self-expression and improving coping tools.

Implements therapeutic interventions utilizing art, music, drama dance or poetry as a modality to facilitate the patient's attainment of goals articulated in the patient treatment plans.

Participates in the formulation of patients' individual treatment plans. Monitors, documents and evaluates the attainment of creative arts therapy goals as part of the therapeutic process.

Encourages independent creative expression through the use of creative arts, music or related media.

Maintains current clinical documentation on all patients’ sessions.

Assesses effectiveness of sessions and makes appropriate changes, as needed.

Participates as a team member in providing continuing patients’ assessment and treatment.

Assist patients/residents to Therapeutic Recreation activities to increase resident participation and socialization.

Attends treatment team meetings.

Performs related duties as required.

Recognize, address and utilize therapeutic creative arts interventions to facilitate mastery and coping

Demonstrates professional competency in group and individual therapies.

Assists with Department Improvement Performance activities

Identifies areas of needed training and development specific to the Creative Arts practice

Demonstrates awareness of evidence-based practices in creative arts and related fields.

Job Qualification

Master's Degree required.

Current License to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist in New York State required (LCAT) plus specialized certifications and CEU’s as needed.

1-3 years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy

*Flexible Schedule but does require at least one evening group.

Salary Range/Pay Rate

$25-$29 Dependent on experience, education or other relevant factors
