Global Edge Compute (GEC) is looking for an experienced Sr. UX Designer (UXD III) to join our innovative team. This position will report to the Software Development Manager for Unified Workcell Compute within the GEC team. As a Sr. UX Designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience for our cutting-edge robotics and edge computing solutions.

The GEC team is responsible for services that manage Amazon's edge compute fleet - over a million devices across thousands of locations worldwide. Our systems manage everything from cutting edge robotics systems in Austin, to delivery stations in Cairo. We deliver innovative technical solutions to facilitate the massive growth in Amazon compute capabilities around the globe.

Our team's mandate is to design, develop, and operate the next generation of device automation systems that allow for the provisioning and management of edge devices at Amazon scale. We're looking for entrepreneurial and innovative individuals who thrive on solving tough problems.

Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. As a Sr. UX Designer, you will help tackle a diverse landscape of complex user experience challenges. We are a greenfield initiative, and you will play an active role in translating business requirements into concrete systems and prototyping concepts in partnership with technology leaders within the team and across the business.

As a Sr. UX Designer on this team, you will have the opportunity to directly impact the experiences of the employees and customers who rely on these critical systems. You will partner with product and engineering to design highly responsive, intuitive, and sleek experiences that will delight customers and set a high bar for all web applications. Your expertise extends beyond just the nuances of modern web and application design - you are well-versed in leveraging a variety of core technologies and frameworks, including design systems like CloudScape and the Figma design platform, to bring your visionary ideas to life.

Key job responsibilities

Lead the design of complex, end-to-end user experiences that solve ambiguous and multifaceted customer problems

Contribute to the product discovery process, assist in validating core product ideas, and translate customer insights and business objectives into innovative, scalable design solutions

Effectively translate complex human workflows into simple and intuitive user interfaces, ranging from small feature iterations to larger, visionary experiences

Collaborate closely with product and engineering to guide strategic decisions, leverage customer insights, and execute design solutions seamlessly from concept to launch

Elevate design excellence across the organization by serving as a mentor to junior designers, while driving the adoption of design guidelines, patterns, and processes

Represent the design perspective in executive-level reviews and influence strategic decisions

Leverage a deep understanding of technology systems to make informed trade-offs and ensure robust, maintainable solutions

Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions and drive positive business outcomes

About the team

We own the infrastructure automation that manages Amazon Fulfillment Technologies and Robotics’ compute and device infrastructure. We are passionate about taking complex infrastructure and abstracting it with self-service tooling. We embrace simple, decoupled, fault-tolerant solutions so we can spend more time innovating, and less time fixing.

Our team is tight-knit and operates primarily out of Austin. We have a mix of experience levels, and work in a broad, collaborative space that has something for everyone. We care about the development of our people and are invested in helping each other attain our career goals.

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of design experience

Have an available online portfolio

Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity

Experience with UX design of complex workflows

Preferred Qualifications

Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes

Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps

Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar
