Design Manager supports client and leads Vanir team providing pre-construction phase services. Design Manager is senior onsite point of contact responsible for delivery of our services including design review, constructability, value engineering, independent estimating, project controls, master schedule, client meetings, oversight of architect, and issue resolution.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Plans, organizes and directs the design activities for the College Campus. Lead design professional providing pre-construction, phase management, quality review, implementation of policy and procedures and Division of the State Architect (DSA) coordination. Primary interface between the CPT team and the Design team.

Proactively manages and monitors the design process, from planning to close-out and DSA certification, to ensure that Campus Projects are designed, constructed and completed in compliance with DSA guidelines and bulletins, programming and project criteria documents, building codes, schedules and budgets, District's standards for design and construction, the District's policies, rules and regulations and the requirements of the SOP.Collaborates with other CPT members, the Design Team and District stakeholders to define the scope of Campus Projects, resolve design-related issues, and address the expectation of District stakeholders.Responsible for QA/QC review of plans, specifications, cut sheets, schedules and other design documents for quality, constructability, coordination and clarity.Manages, develops and oversees the design process for timely and compliant production, review and sign-off of design deliverables, including program, project and schedule compliance.Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each projectDuring Construction, the Design Manager reviews and provides comments to the Design Team on DSA construction change directives (CCDs) for completeness and compliance with design intent, guides the Design Team through the DSA review process, evaluates and reports on the impacts of design changes, and manages DSA Box submittals.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management or closely related fieldMinimum 10 years full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that includes the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities5 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies, including DSA or OSHPD certificationKnowledge of DSA requirements and relevant provisions of the California Public Contract Code, as well as regulations and requirements governing DSA submissions is preferredExperience in design and design management of major K-14 or higher educations projects is preferredUnderstanding of Sustainable Design Principles is preferredUnderstanding of Risk Management principles and the risk management process is preferredUnderstanding of scope definition and scope interface is preferredA current and valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or as a Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferredOffered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
