We are seeking a Staff Industrial Designer to join our Future Programs Team, focusing on alternative forms of transportation that align with our vision for a greener planet. This role requires a forward-thinking design professional who thrives in a creative environment and is passionate about developing compelling, user-centric designs that push the boundaries of automotive and beyond.Responsibilities
Lead the ideation and industrial design of innovative alternative transportation solutions, ensuring alignment with Rivian's brand ethos.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UI/UX, brand, engineering, and product management, to create a cohesive design approach for Future Programs.Conduct user research and market analysis to inform design decisions and identify emerging trends in alternative transportation.Develop and present design concepts through sketches, renderings, digital models, and prototypes, clearly communicating the vision to stakeholders.Contribute to the design language and identity of Rivian's future product lines, ensuring consistency across all embodiments.Stay abreast of industry advancements, competitors, and alternative transportation technologies to inspire and inform design direction.Participate in design reviews, presenting work to leadership and integrating feedback into iterative design processes.Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or a related field.A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in industrial design, preferably within the transportation industry.Proven experience in designing for alternative forms of transportation, with a strong portfolio showcasing innovative concepts and execution.Proficiency in design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Blender, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite) and experience in physical prototyping and materials.Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and experience conducting user research.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary team environment.Passion for sustainable design and emerging technologies that contribute to the future of transportation.
Pay Disclosure
Salary range for California Based Applicants: $167,400-$,209,300 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
