We conduct this research on a 6,800-acre prairie, 35 miles outside Chicago, a treasure that has been designated a National Environmental Research Park.LOCATED IN LEAD, SOUTH DAKOTAThe LBNF/DUNE Designer works in the Project engineering team in Lead, South Dakota, supporting the installation and construction efforts of the LBNF/DUNE Far Detector & Cryogenics subproject. Under general direction, this position has responsibility to support the integration and installation work for infrastructure, scientific detector equipment and cryogenic systems. The individual will develop and maintain the integrated 3D models from the stakeholders and develop 2D drawings as needed. They will also use their technical background to develop solutions for complex interfaces, plan for installation, create tooling designs and work with the team on the overall integration of the FDC subproject.All work will be preformed in a team atmosphere working with scientists, engineers and personnel from other universities, national Labratories and countries. The individual will integrate safety and high quality standards into their designs. They will also maintain the principles of diversity and respect for others in their work.Under limited supervision, have overall responsibility in conjunction with others for the integration issues that cut across various subprojects as well as among different institutions to support the overall project planning and execution. It includes integration of processes across the project in the areas of:3D model management across multiple CAD platforms for LBNF/DUNE Far Detectors & Cryogenics subprojectDevelopment and maintenance of a 2D drawings needed for stakeholdersConfiguration Management and Change Control processesUses technical background to develop creative solutions for complex interfaces, installation, tooling designs and overall integrationIntegration of ES&H into requirements, design, and construction documents and processesIntegration of risk assessment and mitigation into design and constructionAssist in template and standard developmentAbide by and is responsible for performing all duties as assigned and in accordance with all ESH regulations and practices pertinent to this position.Respect, understand and value individual differences that embody the principles of diversity.We Are Looking ForThis is a three-year term position with the opportunity to renew in two-year increments.Must have at a minimum, a certificate or associates degree in mechanical design technology or equivalent.5 years' minimum experience with a parametric solid modeling program:

Autodesk products are preferred: Inventor, Revit(family editor, MEP routings, structural layouts), Plant 3D and Navisworks(clash detection, motion studies).Catia.Solidworks

Experience utilizing BIM standards and best practicesExperience including drafting and creation of shop drawings as well as use of Product Life Management software.Must have a good understanding of assembly constraints and mates.Experience integrating (translating formats between numerous stakeholders) models from various platforms in STEP formats.Must be able to work in and have an understanding of both metric and imperial units.Must be able to read mechanical and electrical drawings.Experience working with project teams in a manufacturing, industrial, or research settingAbility to work independently.Ability to work within a team atmosphere and in an international environmentExperience working with laboratory and university groups preferredGood verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to interact with various stakeholders to understand the needs and requirements of new mechanical & electrical systems and then convert these to designs.Must be able to mentally concentrate on a specific task for several hours at a time.Must be able to use a computer with basic MS Office applications for email, documents, and spreadsheets, and assist in the preparation of reports and presentations.Physical Activity and Work ConditionsHUMAN FACTORS: Mental concentration, Sitting, Standing, Tight Work Schedule, Visually Demanding, working undergroundFermilab is an Equal Opportunity Employer and believes a diverse and inclusive environment based on mutual respect is essential to our mission.
