This position will manage media relations across the Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Az., residential campuses as well as the Worldwide campus. You will be responsible for writing, pitching and posting news releases; developing and maintaining relationships with local, regional and national news outlets; and creating compelling stories that showcase our expertise and impact in aviation and higher education.You will work closely with faculty and staff to gather stories, as well as overseeing our database of faculty experts and coordinating high-profile media interviews and opportunities for our experts.Responsibilities* Write, edit and distribute news releases to relevant media outlets, following AP style and best practices.* Develop and execute earned media strategies and campaigns to increase our visibility and reputation.* Build and maintain a network of contacts with journalists, editors, producers and influencers across print, broadcast and online media.* Monitor and analyze media coverage and report on the effectiveness and outcomes of media relations activities.* Coordinate and prepare spokespeople for media interviews and events.* Work closely with other communications team members and cross-functional teams to identify and leverage media opportunities.* Indirectly manage news writers and strategically plan and post stories.* Oversee our PR software platform and stay abreast of new strategies and technologies for media planning.* Stay updated on media trends and best practices and provide recommendations for improvement.* Be available for situations of crisis/reputation management and serve as a backup on the University's Emergency Operations Team (EOT).Qualifications

Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field.* At least five years of experience in media relations, preferably in aviation and/or higher education sectors.* Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills, with a portfolio of published news releases and media stories.* Proven track record of securing media coverage and building relationships with media outlets.* Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to pitch and persuade effectively.* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.* Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, media databases and social media platforms.* Experience with public relations and earned media distribution platforms.* In-office work required.
