DEPARTMENT PURPOSE AND STRUCTUREThe U.S. Marketing & Business Development team (U.S. MKT Team) is a sophisticated group of experienced professionals charged with guiding the Firm's fee earners to grow U.S. and global revenues, expand existing client relationships and strategically tackle new client pursuits.

ROLE PURPOSEThe Marketing Manager-Directories, Rankings & Awards will work under the guidance of the Director of Marketing Strategy & Operations to manage the Firm's participation of the key legal directories and other rankings and award nominations.

A&O Shearman values directories and awards as a significant benchmarking tool. This role focuses on developing and executing on a strategy to increase rankings and recognition for the Firm and its lawyers, while aiming to increase efficiency and increase consistency of best practices. The successful candidate will serve as a central point of contact and work closely with U.S. Business Development colleagues, lawyers, Firm Management, and Communications team. The successful candidate will have experience in developing and producing submissions, be able to work to multiple, conflicting deadlines and be able to communicate and engage pro-actively and strategically with a wide and varied range of stakeholders across the firm.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for driving the directories submission process from end-to-end.

Serve as the central point of contact and leading expert on directories, rankings and awards within the firm; serve as a trusted advisor to business development colleagues and senior stakeholders.

Develop a strategy and calendar to ensure the firm is well represented in directories and awards in priority areas. Maintain firm profiles for all relevant directories and consistent across all channels.

Develop and maintain relationships with editors and researchers at the legal directories to understand methodology, advocate on behalf of the firm and its lawyers, and communicate relevant information to the Firm. Administer research calendars, submissions, client references and lawyer interviews on behalf of the Firm within the U.S., in close coordination with members of the Business Developing team, and provide training, mentoring and advice in all aspects of the legal directory research process.

Track and analyze submissions and identify areas to improve ranking results while optimizing resource allocation. Work with the firm's Communications and Business development teams to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for communicating the Firm's rankings internally and externally.

Negotiate commercial agreements with relevant organizations relating to directories.

Assist team members with writing, reviewing, coordinating or editing a directory submission.

Assist with other marketing and business development or awards initiatives, as needed.

TEAMThis position reports directly to Director of Marketing Strategy & Operations, but also works closely with other members of the business team, including but not limited to the wider MKT team, HR, Finance, etc.

KEY REQUIREMENTSAt least 5 years relevant experience at a legal directory or in a law firm environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail and project management skills Have extensive knowledge of directories, rankings and awards within the legal industry

Strong networking and advocacy skills with aptitude to build relationships with stakeholders both internally and externally

Strong knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
