Job: Student Success Librarian, Montclair State University

Montclair State University is seeking a Student Success Librarian (R1002837) for a 12-month, tenure-track position. This position was created to support the University’s student success strategic priority and will collaborate with key campus partners. Reporting to the Head for Research and Reference Services, the Student Success Librarian is responsible for supporting the library’s efforts to promote academic success, retention, and wellness for Montclair’s diverse population of undergraduate students. They will help create a more inclusive, equitable and accessible university where students thrive as they navigate their academic paths. This position will help students succeed in the classroom and beyond by enhancing and promoting library services, resources, and spaces. Working in a team environment, the Student Success Librarian will develop teaching materials and outreach strategies to engage and support first-generation, first year, transfer, non-traditional, and international students. The Student Success Librarian will teach, participate in research and reference services, liaison and collection development work.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Work with faculty, campus partners, and colleagues to design, teach, assess, and improve student information literacy instruction in multiple modalitiesWork collaboratively to develop and provide scalable in-person and virtual student success-focused workshops, orientations, outreach, and engagement activities to studentsPartner with relevant campus units (e.g., departments, committees, and student groups) to create and support initiatives that foster student success and undergraduate researchMeasure student learning outcomes, assess library programming, and strive for continuous improvement in support of student successKeep abreast of relevant trends and developments in information literacy, instruction in higher education, and the library’s role in supporting student successParticipate in reference services (in-person and virtual consultations), liaison services, and collection developmentIdentify barriers to student use of library collections, services, and spaces and work collaboratively to address themParticipate in library and university committees and initiatives as well as local, statewide, and/or national professional activitiesPerform other duties as assignedManagement retains the right to add or change job duties at any timeQUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library schoolA minimum of two years of professional (post-MLS) academic or research library experience relevant to this positionExperience teaching undergraduate information literacy skillsKnowledgeable about pedagogical practices (e.g., high-impact, UDL, etc.) and creating learning objectsCompetency with, or strong potential for, instructional design or curriculum designCompetency with, or strong potential for, forming campus partnerships and/or implementing student engagement strategies to advance student successDemonstrated understanding of issues faced by non-traditional, first-generation, underrepresented populations, and international studentsDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibilityHistory of, or strong potential for, scholarly, creative, or professional work appropriate to this tenure track positionAbility to communicate effectively and constructivelyPREFERRED:Experience with developing library programmingExperience with reference services, liaison services, and collection developmentExperience creating online learning objectsExperience with assessment techniques employed in librariesExperience with UXFluency in SpanishSecond Master’s degree in an academic disciplinePROCEDURE FOR CANDIDACYApplicants should include a resume and cover letter describing how their background, skills and education match the needs of the University.
