From the safety of food service and the integrity of real estate transactions to the standards of combat sports and the transparency of condominium governance, DBPR’s regulatory programs intersect with a wide range of business and professional activities in Florida.This is a highly responsible position that serves as the department’s spokesperson and assists the Communications Director in all departmental communications functions, including media relations, social media strategy, marketing, web content development, stakeholder engagement, and video/graphic production.Your Specific Responsibilities:Serves as DBPR spokesperson and primary point of contact for media relations.Responds to inquiries and issues from elected officials, the media, the public, and other government agencies.Assists the Communications Director in generating earned media through the writing and development of press releases, proclamations, social media campaigns, articles, newsletters, and other external deliverables.Monitors daily media coverage and other published content related to the Department, its programs, and its personnel.Identifies media opportunities and strategies to proactively communicate the department's mission.Writes, edits and publishes news releases and articles for internal and external publication.Writes speeches, messages, talking points, and responses for the Secretary of the department and other members of the executive leadership team.Assists in managing messaging and strategy on department social media sites.Identifies and supports opportunities to build and maintain relationships with department licensees and stakeholders.Develops strategic and targeted messaging for internal and external communications.Assists with fulfilling public records requests from members of the media.Manages strategic internal communications initiatives.Creates multimedia scripts for internal and external communications initiatives.Collaborates with the Bureau of Human Resources and Office of the Secretary.Assists with the planning, production, editing, and dissemination of videos, photographs, reports, and other publications.Supports planning, coordinating, and staffing special events for the Secretary or executive leadership.Manages internal and external web pages and department-managed sites.Aligns communications goals and plans with Governor, Secretary, and department priorities.Assists the Communications Director in managing the Communications Office and staff.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of Journalistic writing styles and the concepts of grammar, punctuation and associated press styles.Knowledge and skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Knowledge of the principles and techniques of media relations, public relations editing, and marketing.Skilled in taking technical information and translating it into plain language.Ability to research and write news releases, reports, and newsletters.Skilled in strong written and verbal communication.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Proficient in social media platforms and knowledge of best practices.Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.Detail-oriented, with the ability to recognize, diagnose and resolve issues.Skilled in dealing with the public in a prompt and courteous manner.Ability to organize and manage meetings and special events.Ability to quickly learn new concepts and procedures.The Benefits of Working for the State of Florida:State of Florida retirement package: 3% employee contribution required.Nine annual paid holidays and one personal holiday.176 hours of paid annual leave annually as a new employee.104 hours of paid sick leave annually.Health insurance coverage (individual and family) to eligible employees.$25,000 life insurance policy to eligible employees.Additional supplemental insurance policies are available.Tax deferred medical and childcare reimbursement accounts are available.Tuition waiver program to attend an approved State of Florida College or University.For additional benefit information, please visit
